OUR BEES COME FROM SWARMS
WHERE DO YOUR BEES COME FROM?
Most or our bees come from colonies that are surviving in the wild. During the spring months, we put out swarm traps hoping that the bees will move in. When a colony is healthy and is in danger of running out of room, the existing queen will "swarm" with about half of the bees I the colony. This swarm will find and inhabit a new cavity while the parent colony will raise a new queen. Our goal is to let the bees manage themselves as much as possible and we've found that swarms are very healthy.
HOW DO YOU CATCH SWARMS?
We've located several bee trees where bees are living naturally. In the spring, we put up swarm traps or bait boxes to attract swarms when these colonies naturally reproduce. In addition, we collected swarms.
